Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough, New Zealand) – Known the world over as one of the best examples of Sauvignon Blanc. Pale straw green in colour and enticingly fragrant, this Sauvignon Blanc offers lifted aromas of ripe stone fruit and juicy citrus with underlying notes of blackcurrant leaf and tomato plant spice. The palate is fine yet succulent, with zesty citrus flavours and fresh acidity. There is an appealing plushness about this wine especially as it leads into a lingering and characteristically crisp finish.
Conde Valdemar Rioja, Gran Riserva (Ebro River Valley, Spain) – The Conde Valdemar Rioja Gran Reserva is an award-winning red wine from specially selected parcels in the Rioja Alavesa region. The Conde Valdemar Rioja Gran Reserva is an attractive red cherry in colour with a potent spicy aroma, together with vanilla and cocoa notes. The palate is full and rounded, with a long aftertaste that shows great personality.
Château Batailley, Pauillac Grand Cru Classe (Bordeaux, France) – A very focused, intense bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, cedar and mineral notes, perhaps a little Margaux-like in style as those violets blossom with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well-judged acidity, a touch of white pepper here lending edginess, gradually building to a very composed and structured finish. This is an excellent Batailley.
