Step into a night of jaw-dropping talent and magnetic interplay as the Frank Birkbeck Trio takes over Lincoln Jazz Café for a high-octane evening of modern jazz, fierce groove, and fearless improvisation.
🎸 Frank Birkbeck – the Lincolnshire-born, genre-bending guitarist and multi-instrumentalist – is one of the most sought-after names on the UK jazz circuit. With over 20 years of professional experience, three standing residencies, and a string of sold-out theatre shows, Frank brings serious authority to the stage. Whether headlining at Ronnie Scott’s or Matt & Phreds, collaborating with Hugh Pascall, Snake Davis, and Alan Barnes, or preparing for his hotly anticipated solo debut, Frank’s playing is rich, restless, and riveting.
This is jazz that doesn’t sit still.
🎻 On double bass, Sam Jackson adds deep-rooted elegance and inventive harmony. A respected performer and educator at Leeds Conservatoire, Sam brings academic precision and on-stage electricity — his tone is warm, his solos thoughtful, and his time impeccable. Oh, and he literally wrote the book (The Fundamentals of Jazz Composition).
🥁 And on drums, Steve Hanley — 2023 Parliamentary Jazz Award winner and Jazz North Ambassador — completes the trio. A rising star with a thunderous résumé, Steve’s drumming is all instinct, groove, and melodic intuition. From Cinematic Orchestra’s Stuart McCallum to Jamiroquai’s Jim Corry, Hanley has backed the best — and here, he’ll drive the trio with explosive energy and precision that never lets up.
